Letter 44 is a limited monthly series from Oni Press.
The general concept envelopes modern day astronauts with a "West Wing" style drama reflecting the classified nature of presidential politics and the aesthetics of deep space exploration.
The finished design, modeled after mission patches from the 1960s - 1980s, reflects the space exploration aspects as well as the political side of the series.
During my time with Oni Press, I created the entire design system for the Letter 44 property. The logo, font choices, colors, all page assets including the inside covers, customized indicia, editorial pages, periodical advertisement, and next issue pages.
For the promotional envelope, a hand-held rubber stamp was created to give a "super secret government document" effect. Included with the promotion was an advance copy of issue #1, a redacted version of a White House memo from the President explaining the premise of Letter 44, a teaser poster, metallized stickers, and a packet of astronaut ice cream tieing the theme together.
Small 2.5" stickers utilize a silver metallic ink match the astronaut ice cream to further push the science fiction space aesthetic.

Letter 44 Volume 1: Escape Velocity is a unique mixture of vector graphics, illustration, and polychromatic foil paper.
To achieve an outer space fantasy aesthetic, a white plate was used to differentiate between the fore and background. From any angle, the polychromatic effect changes to give a new dimension of color and depth to the overall design.
